Craig Bierko and Kate Jennings Grant to Star in Guys and Dolls
Tony nominee Craig Bierko and Kate Jennings Grant have been cast as Sky Masterson and Sarah Brown in the forthcoming Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, joining previously announced stars Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit and Lauren Graham as Miss Adelaide. Directed by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff Jersey Boys, the musical will begin previews on February 3, 2009, at the Nederlander Theatre and will open on March 1.
Packed with such classic hits as "Fugue for Tinhorns," "A Bushel and a Peck," "Adelaide's Lament," "I'll Know," "Guys and Dolls," "More I Cannot Wish You," "Luck Be A Lady," and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat," Guys and Dolls features music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.
Bierko had been set to star in the recent Broadway production of To Be or Not To Be but dropped out during rehearsals. He received a Tony nomination for playing Harold Hill in the 2000 revival of The Music Man and appeared on Broadway in Thou Shalt Not. Off-Broadway, Bierko starred in Modern Orthodox. He is the creator and star of a new web series called Bathing with Bierko; in the premiere episode, he nterviewed John Malkovich while giving him a sponge bath, a show that has been viewed more than 100,000 times. Bierko's TV credits include Unhitched, Nip/Tuck, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal and Sex and the City. Film credits include Cinderella Man, Scary Movie 4, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The 13th Floor, Bill and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Grant recently starred as Bette Brennan in the off-Broadway revival of The Marriage of Bette and Boo. Her Broadway credits include Proof and An American Daughter. Her off-Broadway credits include The Beard of Avon, Radiant Baby and a starring role in the musical Summer of '42. She has appeared on TV in Damages, Sex and the City, Law and Order, Jag, Commander-In-Chief and Cold Case. Film credits include United 93, When A Stranger Calls, Kinsey and the upcoming Frost/Nixon as Diane Sawyer and The Rebound.
Guys and Dolls was first produced on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre, opening on November 24, 1950, directed by George S. Kaufman and starring Robert Alda, Sam Levene, Isabel Bigley and Vivian Blaine. The musical enjoyed an initial run of 1,201 performances, winning five 1951 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The most recent Broadway revival, which opened in 1992, ran for 1,143 performances and starred Peter Gallagher, Josie de Guzman, Nathan Lane and Faith Prince.
Sergio Trujillo will choreograph the forthcoming revival of Guys and Dolls. Complete casting and design team will be announced shortly.
